Nexus is the system we helped build for Smith & Johnson, bringing client information and practice workflows together.
It gives us a concrete starting point for conversations about your firm: the processes, the exceptions and the people doing the work.

Chartered accountant
Founder, Smith Innovation Studio
I’m TJ, a chartered accountant and partner at Smith & Johnson. Building Nexus grew out of understanding the operational demands of an accountancy practice.
Smith Innovation Studio brings that experience together with practical software and automation. We help other firms identify worthwhile opportunities, implement the changes and get their teams using them.
The starting point is always a conversation about how your firm works.
Have that conversationPractical questions.
Straightforward answers.
We start with the systems you already use. Often the right answer is to configure an existing feature or connect two tools. We only propose custom work when there is a worthwhile gap to fill.
We look at the actual task, its volume and the cost of mistakes. Predictable tasks often need ordinary automation. AI can help with unstructured information, with staff review where judgement or uncertainty matters.
We agree up to three operational areas and speak to up to two stakeholders for a total of 90 minutes, alongside a walkthrough of your main software and redacted process examples. This is a focused opportunity assessment, not an exhaustive audit of every process. Implementation, software subscriptions and ongoing support are scoped separately.
We agree access, confidentiality and data handling before receiving client information. Initial discussions can use anonymised examples. TJ is also a partner at Smith & Johnson; any implementation engagement must clearly separate access and prohibit using your information to solicit clients.
We will tell you. Your review may recommend a configuration change rather than a custom implementation. The objective is a useful improvement, and the review gives you a recommendation you can act on.
Ownership, licences, account access and handover are agreed in the proposal. Implementation includes documentation, training and a defined period of defect support. Ongoing care is optional and additional workflows are scoped separately.
Tell us about your firm’s priorities. In a 25-minute introductory call, we’ll discuss what you already use, where work gets held up and whether we can help.
